Crossing borders

The past 3 days went by very quickly, because there is not much spare time to be bored, when you’re cycling 8 hours a day. Especially when there are several friends to meet along the way, like it was the case yesterday. I departed in Bonn, came through Cologne, had a little chat, and finally arrived in Aachen, where I was greeted with quesadillas and fabulous cake - exactly what I needed :)
After a good night’s sleep, I made up my mind where to go next. Antwerpen it was and so I started cycling. Very early on I came across the borders of Belgium and the Netherlands in the „Dreiländereck“ (which was pretty underwhelming btw).
Yet my ride had just begun, but there was one more border to cross: the 500km mark. When I started on Monday, I didn’t think that I‘d come this far in such a short time. But here I am, camping next to a canal, about 20km away from Antwerpen.
My absolute highlight today was my lunchbreak in Maastricht. The cake was pretty good and I was allowed to take my bike inside, but these were not the crucial parts. While eating, I looked through the book „One year on a bike“ and suddenly felt huge excitement and joy for everything that has yet to come. Now, that I’m not in Germany anymore, it feels a lot more like an adventure than only a road trip.
I‘m looking forward to cross the border again tomorrow and slowly approach Amsterdam. But first, I have to get a good amount of sleep, but no doubt about that!

yayy, so excited and happy for you!! :) ps: i miss you already…
