After spending the night in Patrick’s front yard the next day, Monday, promised to get very beautiful. Along the route where the Ijsselmeer and the Breezanddijk, that divides said Meer and the North Sea.

I couldn’t wait to cross the 30km long dijk by bike and see nothing but ocean for 90 minutes straight. Notably because my sister‘s boyfriend told me about crossing the dijk and I wanted to tell him how good exactly that felt :)

When I arrived in Den Oever, I had to discover that the dijk was closed due to construction. At least there was a free fietsbus - a bus for cyclists - arranged to get to the other side. While waiting, the situation turned quite well, because there were 4 cyclists already standing at the bus stop. Not being alone in sich a situation is the best way to have a good time nevertheless. Somehow waiting for the bus turned to a spontaneous tea-time with snacks and a really nice atmosphere :)

Thanks again guys, for making even waiting for a bus a memorable Part of my journey! On the other side of the dijk, there was the North Sea waiting for me. While standing ankle deep in the water I felt a warm and strong feeling of joy arise, as if I was a puppy who just got off the leash I jumped and ran across the beach - that’s how good I felt!

Later that day, I arrived in Leeuwarden being exhausted from all the running on the beach. There I sent out a request to stay at Saskia‘s via Warmshowers and she immediately replied and accepte. I’ve done couchsurfing before, but for warmshowers this was my first experienc. And what can I say, it was a wonderful one! The evening was interesting, included a shower AND a shave and Bob, Saskia‘s husband even prepared me some eggs, just lovely. Because this is the internet and animals are always welcome, here is a picture of me and Boi, the cute doggo living with Bob and Saskia:
